2022 Coats for Kids

Our members and supporters spent two days giving away brand-new coats to children in our community.  In late October, we handed out 865 coats in four local elementary schools.  As you can imagine, there were many excited and happy kids both days.

The first day we were in Olympia at LP Brown Elementary and Garfield Elementary.  The second day we were in Tumwater visiting Peter G. Schmidt Elementary and Michael T. Simmons Elementary.  Our long-time supporters from Nicole’s Bar, Olympia Firefighters Union members, and Tumwater Firefighter Union members assisted our foundation with delivering and handing out coats.

The coats for kids program started nine years ago with the Tumwater Firefighters Union.  Peter G. Schmidt Elementary was the recipient of 177 coats the first year of the program.  The Tumwater Firefighters continued the program until our foundation was formed.

We cannot express how fortunate we are to have tremendous community support.  It allows us to continue this amazing program.  It’s all worth when you see the smiles, the laughter, how proud they are with a new coat.  For some, they took coats home to their siblings.  The excitement to deliver a gift to a brother or sister matched the joy of receiving their own.
